Gate-side questions
Short answers for people with hours to burn and a phone at 14%.
How long is a long layover?
We draw the line at four hours. Below that you need a charged phone and a snack. Past four, the gadgets on this site start earning their carry-on space.
Can I take a power bank in my carry-on?
Yes. Lithium batteries belong in cabin baggage, never in checked bags. Up to 100 Wh is generally fine; 100 to 160 Wh needs airline approval. Some airlines add limits on number or in-flight use, so check yours.
Is it safe to nap at the gate?
Usually, if you loop a bag strap around your leg or chair, keep valuables on your body and set two alarms. Safe is never guaranteed, so sleep light.
Can I leave the airport during a layover?
Sometimes. It depends on visa rules, immigration queues and whether your bag is checked through. Do not try it under six to eight hours, and check official entry rules.
Do I need a plug adapter?
If your plug does not fit the local socket, yes. Most modern chargers accept 100 to 240 V, but check the label.
Are noise-cancelling headphones worth it on a layover?
On a long wait, yes. They cut steady engine and air-conditioning hum, though not voices or announcements.
What is a self-transfer and why does it matter?
A self-transfer means two separate tickets. If the first flight is late, the second airline is not obliged to rebook you. Leave at least four hours and recheck your bag.
Do brands pay to be on this site?
We rank types of gadget by use. We are not affiliated with any maker, airline or airport named on this site.
How do I report a mistake?
